Best Email Marketing Platform for Small Business (2026): Prices and Limits Compared

We compare Constant Contact, MailerLite, Brevo and Mailchimp for small businesses: free plans, starting prices, user seats, send limits and support.

Choosing the best email marketing platform for a small business is mostly a pricing puzzle. Nearly every tool can send a good-looking newsletter and a welcome series. What differs is how they charge: by list size, by emails sent, or by user seats. Pick the wrong model and a list that doubles in a year can double your bill, or a second person on the team can force an upgrade.

We compared four widely used platforms on what a small team actually needs, and on what each one costs at the size you are now.

How we chose

A small business email platform needs to:

  • Send newsletters and promotions that look professional without a designer.
  • Automate the basics: a welcome series for new subscribers and follow-ups after a purchase or booking.
  • Grow sign-ups with forms and landing pages on your website.
  • Stay affordable as the list grows, with pricing you can predict.
  • Let more than one person work in it, since the owner is rarely the only one sending.

We checked each vendor’s pricing and plan pages. Where a price depends on list size, we give the starting price and say so. Read more about how we review.

The best email marketing platforms for small business

#1
★ Best overall for small business

Constant Contact

Best for owners who want someone to call when a campaign will not send

What we like

  • Live phone and chat support on every plan
  • Tools to promote events and take payments
  • Drag-and-drop editor, templates, sign-up forms and social posting on all plans
  • Free trial with no credit card, plus a 30-day money-back guarantee

Watch out for

  • Lite includes only 1 user and 1 automation template
  • Sends above your monthly limit are billed at $0.002 each
  • Prices rise with the size of your contact list
Lite
$12/mo, 1 user
Standard
$35/mo, 3 users
Premium
$80/mo, unlimited users

Constant Contact is built for people who are not full-time marketers, which describes most small business owners. Every plan includes the editor, templates, sign-up forms, social posting and, most importantly, live phone and chat support. It can also promote events and take payments, which suits studios, clinics, shops and service businesses that run classes or open days.

Which plan to pick: Standard at $35 a month is the right plan for most small teams. It adds 3 users, scheduling, subject line A/B testing, automatic resend to non-openers and reporting on who opened and clicked. Lite at $12 works for a single owner sending a simple monthly newsletter.

Watch out for: list growth. The listed prices are monthly starting prices, and each plan costs more as your contact list grows. Prepaying for 12 months saves up to 15%. Check the price for your real list size before you commit.

Best value

MailerLite

Best for small businesses that want automation and landing pages on a budget

What we like

  • Every paid plan gets automation, landing pages, a website builder and forms
  • Comfort includes 3 seats; Power has unlimited seats
  • AI writing assistant included on paid plans
  • 14-day free trial of premium features, no credit card

Watch out for

  • Free plan is capped at 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month
  • Comfort limits monthly sends to 10x your subscriber tier
  • Live chat support is only on the Power plan

250 subscribers
Comfort
From $12/mo, 3 seats
Power
From $25/mo, unlimited seats
Trial
14 days, no card

MailerLite charges for the size of your list and how much you send, not for access to features. That makes it one of the cheapest ways to get real automation: the Comfort plan starts at $12 a month and includes automated workflows, landing pages, a subscriber preference center and an AI writing assistant. Power, from $25 a month, adds unlimited seats, unlimited sending and 24/7 live chat.

Which plan to pick: Comfort for most small businesses. Move to Power if more than 3 people need access or you send more than 10 emails per subscriber a month.

Watch out for: the free plan is limited to 250 subscribers, so plan on a paid tier once your list is growing.

#3
Best free plan

Brevo

Best for businesses with a large list they email only occasionally

What we like

  • Free forever plan with 300 emails per day
  • Priced by emails sent, not by contacts stored
  • Unlimited segments on paid plans; unlimited automations from Standard
  • Email and SMS from one account

Watch out for

  • The free plan's daily cap makes big one-day sends hard
  • Brevo branding on emails until you pay to remove it
  • Phone support only on the Professional plan
Free

Paid plans
From $9/mo (Starter)
Pricing model

Brevo’s pricing model is different from the others: you pay for the number of emails you send, not the number of contacts you keep. For a business with a large customer list that only gets a monthly newsletter, that can be much cheaper than a contact-based plan. The free plan allows 300 emails a day with no time limit.

Which plan to pick: start free. Move to a paid plan when you need to send to your whole list on the same day, or when you want the Brevo branding removed.

Watch out for: the daily cap. A promotion to 3,000 customers would take ten days on the free plan, so upgrade before a time-sensitive sale.

Best for integrations

Mailchimp

Best for businesses whose other tools already connect to Mailchimp

Free up to 250 contactsVisit Mailchimp

What we like

  • 300+ integrations on every plan, including free
  • Essentials includes 3 seats and 24/7 email and chat support
  • Standard adds up to 200 automation flow points, 5 seats and custom reports
  • 14-day free trial of Essentials and Standard

Watch out for

  • Free plan: 1 seat, 500 emails a month, no scheduling, Mailchimp branding
  • Automation on Essentials is limited to 4 steps per flow
  • Paid prices depend on contact count; use Mailchimp's calculator
Free
250 contacts, 1 seat
Essentials
3 seats, 10x contacts in sends
Standard
5 seats, 12x contacts in sends
Premium
Unlimited seats, phone support

Mailchimp is the name most people know, and its main advantage is reach: more than 300 integrations, so the booking tool, shop or form builder you already use probably connects to it. Plans scale cleanly from Free to Essentials, Standard and Premium, with more seats, larger sending allowances and deeper automation at each step.

Which plan to pick: Standard if you want real automation, since Essentials limits each automated flow to 4 steps. Essentials is enough for scheduled newsletters with a simple welcome email.

Watch out for: price. Mailchimp’s paid plans are priced by contact count, and the pricing page we could read showed local currency rather than US dollars, so we do not list a US starting price. Run your real list size through Mailchimp’s calculator and compare it with MailerLite or Constant Contact.

Which one should you choose?

  • You want phone support and hands-on help: Constant Contact, Standard plan.
  • You want the most features for the money: MailerLite Comfort.
  • You have a big list, send occasionally and have almost no budget: start on Brevo’s free plan.
  • Your shop, booking or form tools already connect to Mailchimp: Mailchimp Standard.

Whichever you pick, import only people who agreed to hear from you, set up a welcome email before your first campaign, and check what the plan costs at twice your current list size.
