Best CRM for Startups (2026): 4 Options Compared on Price and Scale

We compare HubSpot, Pipedrive, Attio and Zoho CRM for startups: free plans, startup discounts, per-seat cost and how far each one scales before you switch.

The best CRM for a startup is the one you will not have to rip out after your seed round. On day one, founders need a place to track customer conversations, investor intros and early deals, usually for free. A year later, the same system has to handle a small sales team, email sequences and pipeline reports. Moving your customer history from one CRM to another at that point is slow and error-prone.

We compared four CRMs that publish their prices, on what an early-stage team actually needs: a real free or low-cost starting point, a fair per-seat price as you hire, and room to grow.

How we chose

An early-stage team needs its CRM to:

  • Start free or close to it, before there is revenue to pay for software.
  • Sync with Gmail or Outlook, so founders do not log every email by hand.
  • Track more than sales deals, such as investors, partners and hiring pipelines.
  • Scale without a migration, with automation and reporting available on higher plans.
  • Price fairly per seat, with monthly billing available so you are not locked in too early.

We read each vendor’s pricing page and startup program page. Where a vendor shows prices in another currency or behind a script, we confirmed the US price on the vendor’s own site. Read more about how we review.

The best CRM software for startups

★ Best overall

HubSpot

Best for startups that want one platform for sales, marketing and support

Free; Starter $20/seat/moVisit HubSpot

What we like

  • Free CRM tools to start, with no credit card
  • Starter bundle covers marketing, sales, service and content tools
  • HubSpot for Startups: 30% to 90% off for eligible startups
  • More than 2,000 apps in the HubSpot Marketplace

Watch out for

  • Startup discounts require an annual commitment
  • Exceeding Starter limits moves you up to the Professional tier
  • Professional and Enterprise editions require paid onboarding

HubSpot is the safest long-term choice for a startup because it grows with you. You can begin with the free CRM tools, move to the Starter Customer Platform when you need more, and keep the same database all the way up. Starter bundles the Starter edition of each HubSpot product: marketing email and landing pages, sales pipelines and meeting scheduling, ticketing, a website builder and payments for US customers.

The HubSpot for Startups program is the reason it tops this list. Startups that have raised pre-seed, seed or Series A money and are affiliated with an approved HubSpot partner, or whose funding can be verified, can get between 30% and 90% off, according to HubSpot. After the discount period, typically two years, you move to standard pricing.

Which plan to pick: start free. Move to Starter once you need automation or want to remove HubSpot branding. If you are venture-backed, check eligibility for the startup program before buying anything.

Watch out for: the jump to Professional. HubSpot moves you up if you exceed Starter limits such as contacts, seats or email sends, and Professional is a higher-priced tier that requires paid onboarding. HubSpot was also running a limited-time Starter discount for new customers when we checked, so the price you see may be lower than the $20 list price.

Best for sales-led teams

Pipedrive

Best for founders and small teams whose main job is closing deals

From $14/seat/moVisit Pipedrive

What we like

  • Simple, visual pipeline that new hires learn quickly
  • 14-day free trial with full access and no credit card
  • Growth plan adds full email sync, automations and sequences
  • More than 500 integrations, including Zapier and Zoom

Watch out for

  • No free plan
  • Email sync and automations need Growth or higher
  • Lead generation and document tools are paid add-ons below Premium
Lite
$14/seat/mo, billed annually
Top plan (Ultimate)
$79/seat/mo, billed annually
Trial
14 days, no card

Pipedrive is built for one job, moving deals through a pipeline, and it does that job with less setup than any other tool here. If the founders are doing the selling and want to see every open deal at a glance, Pipedrive is the quickest way there.

The Lite plan covers leads, deals, contacts and the calendar. Most startups will want Growth, which adds full sync with Gmail, Outlook or your company email, bulk email with open and click tracking, automations, email sequences, and subscription and forecast reports, which is useful if you sell recurring plans.

Which plan to pick: Growth for most teams. Lite only works if you are happy logging email by hand.

Watch out for: add-ons. LeadBooster (lead capture), Projects and Smart Docs are included only from Premium, and the Campaigns email marketing add-on costs extra on every plan. Pipedrive charges per seat, whether or not the seat is assigned to a user.

#3
Best for flexible data

Attio

Best for technical founders who want to track investors, users and deals in one custom CRM

Free; Plus $35/seat/moVisit Attio

What we like

  • Free plan for up to 3 seats with email and calendar sync
  • Contacts are built and enriched automatically from your inbox
  • Pro plan supports custom objects and email sequences
  • Startup program with up to 80% off for eligible startups

Watch out for

  • Plus is capped at 10 seats
  • Custom objects and sequences need Pro ($79/seat/mo, billed annually)
  • AI features and automations draw on monthly credits with plan limits
Free
Up to 3 seats
Plus
$35/seat/mo annual, $44 monthly
Pro
$79/seat/mo, billed annually
Trial
14 days of Pro

Attio is a newer CRM that suits startups whose relationships do not fit a standard sales pipeline. Once you connect email and calendar, it builds a database of everyone you talk to and enriches companies with details such as employee count and, on higher plans, funding raised. That makes it practical for tracking a fundraising round, a partner list and early customers side by side.

The free plan covers up to 3 seats and 50,000 records. Plus raises that to 10 seats and 250,000 records, adds the Deals, Users and Workspaces objects, and lets you remove the “Sent with Attio” footer. Pro has no seat limit and adds custom objects, email sequences and call recording.

Which plan to pick: Free while you are two or three founders. Plus once you hire, and Pro when you need sequences or custom objects.

Watch out for: currency. Attio localizes its pricing page, so the price you see may differ outside the US. The US prices here reflect a price change Attio made in mid-2026.

Best budget option

Zoho CRM

Best for cost-conscious startups that want deep features at a low price

Free; from $14/user/moVisit Zoho CRM

What we like

  • Free edition for up to 3 users
  • Low per-user price with monthly or annual billing, no contract
  • Workflows, multiple pipelines and Gmail and Outlook integration
  • Part of a wider suite of Zoho business apps

Watch out for

  • More settings to configure than Pipedrive or Attio
  • Check which edition includes advanced tools such as CPQ and predictive scoring
  • Faster support needs a paid support plan
Free
Up to 3 users
Standard
$14/user/mo annual, $20 monthly
Professional
$23/user/mo annual, $35 monthly
Contract
None, monthly or yearly

Zoho CRM gives you more features per dollar than anything else in this guide. The free edition covers up to 3 users with leads, deals, workflows, reports and mobile apps. Across its editions, Zoho lists multiple sales pipelines, Gmail and Outlook integration, sales forecasting, custom modules and AI agents, with paid plans starting at $14 per user per month billed annually.

It also connects to the rest of the Zoho suite, which matters if you plan to run email marketing, help desk or invoicing from the same vendor.

Which plan to pick: start on Free. Move to Standard when you pass three users. Compare Standard and Professional on Zoho’s feature list before you upgrade, since features such as inventory management and the QuickBooks integration may not be in every edition.

Watch out for: the learning curve. Zoho CRM is highly configurable, and that takes time to set up. If you only need a simple pipeline, Zoho also sells a lighter CRM called Bigin.

Which one should you choose?

  • You want one platform for the long run, especially if you are venture-backed: HubSpot, and apply for the startup program first.
  • Founders are selling and want the simplest pipeline: Pipedrive on the Growth plan.
  • You track investors, partners and users as well as deals: Attio.
  • You need the most features for the least money: Zoho CRM.

Whichever you pick, connect your email on day one and import your existing spreadsheet, so the history of every early customer conversation lives in one place.

Build the rest of your startup stack: accounting software for startups and payroll software for startups.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free CRM for startups?

Yes. Zoho CRM is free for up to 3 users, Attio has a free plan for up to 3 seats, and HubSpot offers free CRM tools. Pipedrive has no free plan but gives a 14-day free trial with no credit card.

Do CRMs offer startup discounts?

It requires an annual commitment. Attio offers up to 80% off for eligible startups through its startup program.

When should a startup move off spreadsheets to a CRM?

As soon as more than one person talks to customers or investors, or you lose track of follow-ups. Free plans from Zoho, Attio and HubSpot make the switch cheap, and importing a spreadsheet is supported by all four tools in this guide.
